NEW YORK (CNN) -- David Bouley, executive chef and owner of New York City's Danube and Bouley Bakery was named outstanding chef of the year at the Tenth Annual James Beard Foundation Awards at a ceremony on Monday night.

The award was presented to Bouley by last year's winner, Charlie Trotter, who took home an award himself. His Chicago restaurant, Charlie Trotter's, garnered this year's outstanding restaurant honor.

The ceremony, named for the late chef and food writer James Beard, distributed 68 awards to winners selected by more than 600 food and beverage industry professionals from around the United States. More than 1600 people attended the event.
