McGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, New Jersey (CNN) -- An elderly Kosovo woman died en route to the United States while she and other ethnic Albanians were being airlifted to a refugee center in New Jersey, a U.S. Army spokesman said.
The woman, believed to be in her 80s, died on a flight from Macedonia which landed at McGuire Air Force Base on Wednesday.
The woman's name and the cause of her death were not immediately available.
The Kosovars who arrived at McGuire Air Force Base on Wednesday are scheduled to join other ethnic Albanian refugees who have arrived in the United States in recent days and are being housed at nearby Fort Dix.
Officials said the refugees on the latest flight would raise the total number at Fort Dix to nearly 3,000.
The United States has agreed to take in up to 20,000 Kosovo refugees.
